Sukhnoor Mangat, 2015 Recipient of the Yes I Can Award in recognition of her achievement in Academics

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching Sukhnoor M receive the Yes I can Award at the Gala Event at the Victoria Inn. Sukhnoor was awarded for her personal achievements and growth in the area of academics. Sukhnoor is Deaf and moved to Canada from India. When she arrived in Canada, she had no way to communicate with anyone and was often frustrated and sad. With hard work and perseverance, Suknoor learned sign language (ASL) and started to use her knowledge of ASL to learn English. Every day she worked with Ms. Gluska and with the Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students to improve her language and communication skills. Now that she is talking and signing, we have seen her academic achievements soar! Sukhnoor smiles, jokes, talks, and LEARNS! She is a SHARK!
