General municipal elections are held every four years on the fourth Wednesday in October. This includes elections for mayors / reeves and councillors. Elections for school trustees take place the same day.

Most of the media attention surrounds the election for Winnipeg's new mayor. School Board Trustees also get elected on October 22, 2014.

School trustees are a very important part of our school division, they set policy and the direction for our school division and directly children's involvement in school. St. James-Assiniboia has always had strong school boards that has made sure our schools have had the chance to become leaders in Winnipeg and Manitoba.
