November 8. 2012
Dear Parents/Guardians:
On November 7, 2012 at approximately 3:30 pm a vehicle at
the corner of Portage Avenue and Ferry Road struck a George Waters Middle
School student. Today, we can confirm that the student is in stable condition
and recovering in hospital.
Students have been informed of the incident by school
administration and classroom teachers in a supportive manner. In addition, a
counseling center was set up in the school, where those students most affected
could receive further supports. It is hoped that by providing a supportive
place for students it is believed that they would be able to understand and
cope with the incident.
We encourage students to express their feelings here at
school. We also encourage parents to discuss the incident at home. Listening to
your child and acknowledging their feelings will be helpful. As each child and
his/her experiences are different, the need for discussion and support will
vary.
We would also ask parents to review road safety rules with
their child and stress the importance of obeying crossing signals at busy
intersections. Please contact the school office if you have any questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
Andrew Mead
Principal
