JAWSS Today

This afternoon all students had another JAWSS class. This was another chance to meet their JAWSS (Joint Activities with Staff and Students) and their adviser. In most JAWSS classes students got the chance to set goals that relate to their 'Level of Sharkdom'.

Grade 6s are responsible for the inside ring

'GET INVOLVED' & 'STAND UP FOR OTHERS'

Grade 8s are responsible for all three rings

'GET INVOLVED' & 'STAND UP FOR OTHERS' & 'BE A PHILANTHROPIST'

This is a video gives an explanation of what it means to 'Be a Philanthropist' at George Waters Middle School. It is the actress Olivia Wilde on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight Show. A great explanation of the 'new' philanthropy starts at the 4:23 mark of the video and ends at h 4:56 mark. 

During JAWSS today, grade 6s wrote 5 different ways they felt they could Get Involved at George Waters or their community this year. Here is an example of a what a grade 6 student wrote:

 Today, grade 7s wrote 5 different ways they felt they could Get Involved at George Waters or their community this year. Here is an example of a what a grade 7 student wrote:

 Today, grade 8s wrote 3 different ways they felt they could Get Involved, 3 ways they could 'Stand Up for Others' and 3 ways they could 'Be a Philanthropist'  at George Waters or their community  this year. Here is an example of a what a grade 8 student wrote:

JAWSS is mainly about relationships. Today was our second meeting so time was also spent getting to know each other in their JAWSS group. 

In this activity students wrote down two things about themselves they wanted to share on a piece of paper. Then they crumpled their paper and threw somewhere in the room. Then each student found a crumpled piece of paper, opened it up and had to find the person who wrote on it. They got introduced and began to learn about each other.
