Kik - texting app

It has come to our attention that outside of school hours, some students are using the application (http://kik.com) to communicate with their friends via their ipods. Recently we were informed that some bullying and inappropriate messages have been sent and received by some students.
We wanted parents to be aware of the “kik” application and remind you that children require supervision while they are on the internet, email or messaging programs. We are currently discussing the use and dangers of social media in classes. Please check out kidsintheknow.ca for more information about the details of our discussions with students. Classroom teachers focus on internet safety on an on-going basis as well while students are learning the appropriate use of technology while learning.
