Proposed Track at GWMS and SJC

To the St. James Collegiate / George Waters Middle School Community:

St. James-Assiniboine School Division will be holding information meetings on a proposed plan to significantly upgrade its athletic fields behind St. James Collegiate on Portage Avenue. The school division is proposing an upgrade to its athletic fields behind St. James Collegiate and to build a regulation-size running track and a new full-sized soccer field at the existing soccer field site.

In order to build a regulation-size running track, the Division would need to encroach onto Bourkevale land by approximately 35 metres.

Area residents would have access to the running track and the full-size soccer field. As part of the project, the school division has agreed to fund a 3⁄4 soccer field on Bourkevale land immediately south of the proposed track.

Area residents are invited to attend public meetings to become familiar with the proposed project as the development would affect some portion of Bourkevale’s greenspace. Two meetings will be held:

7:00 p.m., Tuesday January 29, 2013
7:00 p.m., Tuesday February 5, 2013

Meetings will be held at St. James Collegiate, 1900 Portage Avenue

Community members can view the site plan for the proposed running track and soccer fields online at http://www.sjsd.net. http://www.sjsd.net/PDF/St-James-Track-Public-2-17.pdf
